A SCHOOL in Barry has won a prestigious school award.
Jenner Park Primary School was awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.
Jenner Park’s international work includes visits to Spain and Greece for some of the pupils and staff, staff visits to Romania and visits from schools in Spain and Greece to Jenner Park.
The school say the activities helped young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s world.
On hearing the news, headteacher David Morris said he was grateful for the success of the international program.
“I am delighted that Jenner Park has once again been recognised for the work that takes place throughout the school to prepare our children for an ever-shrinking world and ever for expanding opportunities to engage with that world.
"The children at the school love learning about the culture and ways of life of countries around the world, and thanks to the professionalism and generosity of staff, have even been able to learn about and even visit other countries to experience this first hand.”
Scott McDonald, chief executive of the British Council, said: "The school has earned this prestigious award through its inspirational international work and links with schools abroad.
"This is especially commendable when schools have been deeply affected by the global pandemic.
"The desire to build on their international work shines through and it is with upmost pride that we celebrate their achievements.
"By embedding an international dimension in children’s education, these schools are preparing their students for successful lives in the UK or further afield, empowering them to be global citizens, and are creating vital opportunities in an increasingly global economy."
